How I Got Here...
A lot of people have asked me how I got started in photography, so in case you really were dying to know, lemme 'splain. No, lemme sum up.
I am a musician and I come from a long long line of musicians in the family. It's sort of What We Do. So I went to college thinking I would too. Maybe I'll teach, maybe I'll perform, maybe I'll go into The Industry.
Incidentally, it was the latter that I ended up doing. I got my BA in Music Business and before I graduated, I was already working for Columbia Records (Sony/BMG) in Santa Monica. I had the opportunity to work in the A&R department - which really only matters in this sum up to say that it put me in regular contact with a lot of awesome big name artists. Which is why I was horrified when they told me I'd be taking inter-office photos of these big name artists. I had never even attempted photography before that. Let alone with people who get photographed daily and by some of the biggest name Photographers in the world. Yikes.
Needless to say, after lessons from other photographers, investing in my own equipment so I could practice, and doing a lot of 2nd shooting, that became the best part of my job. Quite simply, I fell in love with it. Before a year had gone by, I had decided to pursue photography, and shortly after that, it became my full-time profession. I've never looked back and I've never regretted it!
